FAQs

What´s the difference between vegetable, cooking or edible oils?

They are oils extracted from seeds, or less often, from other parts of fruits. They are plant-based oils, and can be edible or otherwise. Edible vegetable oils are used in food, both in cooking and as supplements. Examples are coconut, palm oil, corn oil, olive oil, peanut oil, canola oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, among others.

  • Cooking oils are plant, animal or synthetic fat used in frying, baking and cooking.
  • Edible Oils are oils that can either be plant, animal or synthetic, used for cooking or food processing.

Supermarkets or groceries have vegetable, cooking or edible oils? How will I know what´s the source?

Most manufacturers just put either vegetable, cooking or edible oils in their brand packaging. This means, they can switch to any type of oils, most likely the cheaper type of oil, at any time.

However, some brands, like BAMBI, specify the type of oil in its packing. Bambi is 100% premium coconut oil.

How many kinds of coconut oil are there?

There are 2 kinds:

  • VCO or Virgin Coconut Oil
  • RBD or Refined, Bleached & Deodorized Coconut Oil (RBD CNO)

What´s the difference between VCO and RBD coconut oil?

VCO is the natural oil derived from freshly picked matured coconut, while RBD is derived from dried coconut meat. VCO contains Vitamin E, while RBD CNO doesn´t. VCO also costs much more than RBD coconut oil. VCO has a mild coconut scent, while RBD CNO is odorless.

What´s the similarity between VCO & RBD CNO?

Both have very similar characteristics: rich in MCTs and Lauric Acid, no cholesterol, no trans-fat. Both have anti microbial properties (antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal). It´s also great for skin and hair.

What the best uses for the 2 types of coconut oils?

  • VCO is best as a food supplement, to be taken directly or mixed with your favorite drinks, like coffee.
  • RBD Coconut oil is best for cooking, frying, and baking. This is the more practical and economical way of getting the health benefits of coconut oil, without having to pay for the high price.

Which coconut oil is suitable for cooking?

Both VCO and RBD coconut oils are both suitable for cooking. However, VCO loses its Vitamin E in the cooking process because of the high heat, so it will turn out to be like RBD CNO. So, why use the more expensive coconut oil in cooking, when you will get the same results with the lesser priced coconut oil?
